Alien Earthlings
Living at depths where water pressure is up to 120 times greater than at the surface, the blobfish has evolved unique biological traits:
Gelatinous Body: It lacks strong bones and thick muscle, instead consisting of a jelly-like substance slightly less dense than water. This allows it to float effortlessly above the seafloor without a swim bladder, which would collapse under such extreme pressure.
Passive Hunting: It is not an active hunter. Instead, it drifts along and uses its large jaws to swallow edible matter, such as small crustaceans, that floats
Blobfish are psychrolutid fish (family Psychrolutidae). Fishes in this family are called the blobfishes or fathead sculpins. They are found in marine waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans at depths between 100 m and 2800 m. The common name 'fathead sculpin' refers to the large, globular head and 'floppy' skin that is typical of these fishes. Little is known of their biology. Some have been found with gastropods in the stomach.
